I want to share with you about my New Year’s resolution in the year 2012. I already experienced great problems in life even if I’m still in my 20s. I recognize how early God let me experience all these things.
I asked myself, “What exactly is really the reason behind these things I have experienced?” I assumed I’m into bad karma, realizing that I also have mistakes I have done in my life. But I really think this is way too much already. I’m hoping I am not experiencing these things.
I came into a point of writing my New Year’s resolution last December 2011. But I guess none is quite possible. I revised what I wrote. To change myself was the main New Year’s resolution I have thought. But, How? I was thinking this is a broad idea and that I cannot make this happen.
After days of realization, I came up with a very important thing for me to change myself into a better person; a person who is filled with nothing but good things in life. And this is to have spiritual disciplines in life. I believed that could be the start to change myself right into a better person. Having Spiritual disciplines in life, I’m sure I got to handle problems and somehow eliminate all of the pain I felt inside.
I used to pray always in the evening. I thank God for the blessings, ask forgiveness and I ask blessings for my family and to all of the people I’ve met.
But, I assumed doing this isn’t enough for me to develop spiritual discipline. I need to go to church regularly, to attend prayer groups when possible, to become an active individual to serve God and others. I know these things will soon become possible. It just came into my mind which I can’t do these things with the temptations everywhere.
I have read an article regarding a man named Douglas Todd. He regularly attends retreats. He likes to be with silent groups to build up hi own character in life. He did mention about an author named Merton. Douglas put emphasis on Merton’s book about New Seeds Of Contemplation.
